To begin with, the Criminal Justice System is meant to protect citizens and enforce the laws of the United States of America. However, the Criminal Justice System continues to be flawed in the areas of protecting innocent citizens and stereotyping individuals with diverse backgrounds. How is it fair that if youââ¬â¢re a Muslim you are automatically seen as a terrorist? How is it fair that an unarmed African-American male gets bullets fired into his body for doing nothing at all? Critical Evaluation Of The Operations Management Commerce Essay Free Essays
string(32) " pay the provider subsequently\." The essay is about to critical measure the operations direction scheme of Hard Rock Cafe as described in the instance stuffs, and discourse the operations direction challenges every bit good as the chances when Hard Rock Cafe sing expand their concern in Hanoi-Vietnam. In the essay, text edition, cyberspace, academic researches will be mentioned to back up the critical evaluates operations direction, challenges and chances issues. Harmonizing to Heizer EL at. We will write a custom essay sample on Critical Evaluation Of The Operations Management Commerce Essay or any similar topic only for you Order Now , ( 2011 ) , ââ¬Å" Operations direction is defined as any activities that relate to the creative activity of goods and services through the transmutation of inputs and end products â⬠, while operation directors play an of import function in the direction procedure. ââ¬Å" The direction procedure contains be aftering, forming, staffing, taking, and commanding â⬠. ( Heizer el at. , 2011 ) . In the instance stuffs provided, we will measure 10 critical determinations of Operations directions which are goods and service design, managing quality, procedure and capacity design, location scheme, layout scheme, HR and occupation design, supply-chain direction, stock list, programming and last determination is care to see whether how good Hard Rock cafe applied these determinations in their operation direction ( Heizer el at. , 2011 ) . We will measure few determinations amongst those 10 determinations to allow people hold a wide position of how Difficult Rock Cafe applies these determinations to run their concern. For goods and service design, what services/products should Cafe give to clients? That is really of import issue to Hard Rock Management. As we ââ¬Ëve known, Hard Rock is in cordial reception industry. If they provide products/services wrongly, it would take the company to ruin. Follow the Hard Rock instance survey, due to the planetary economic alterations, differences in concern jurisprudence, a batch of hazard factors that make Difficult Rock Cafe alterations from planetary Strategy into multi-domestic scheme. Multi-domestic scheme is ââ¬Å" a scheme that companies in each market makes their operating determinations independently of others oversea markets â⬠( hypertext transfer protocol: //tutor2u.net ) . In here, company decided to franchise a big figure of their coffeehouse by fall ining with opened cafe such as in Manchester and Birmingham, which try to pull local occupants involve in their concern due to this topographic point is non a common topographic point for tourer, where people in here are rather conservative. This determination would do them to redesign their goods and services to run into with the local gustatory sensation. Differences state would hold different cultural, linguistic communications, concern patterns. For illustration: Hard Rock cafe in Kuwait would necessitate to alter their bill of fares because they ca nââ¬â¢t eat porc. All merchandises are related to porc are prohibited every bit good as intoxicant while in US where people can eat porc, imbibe intoxicant with no limitation due to difference faiths and jurisprudence every bit good ( Muslim in Kuwait and chiefly Catholic, Protestant, Buddhism in US ) . ( hypertext transfer protocol: //www.hardrock.com ) Another issue is pull offing quality. Base on Rose EL at. , ( 2005 ) , ââ¬Å" direction quality is looked at 4 issues: quality planning, quality control, quality confidence and quality betterment â⬠. Hard Rock Cafe has been focused on quality control and betterment by study. It has been done on a regular basis with rate from 1 to 7. If the mark is non reached score 7 that mean the nutrients and services will be reviewed. The company has changed their bill of fare to fit with local gustatory sensation every bit good as upgrade their bill of fare. They are non merely concentrate on their traditional nutrient such as beefburgers and beefs but besides look for high category of nutrient like fishes, lobsters. Although clients go to Hard Rock Cafe because they love music, atmosphere, environment, that is the chief ground but high quality of nutrient which show in bill of fare would be value-added to Hard Rock Cafe repute and brand clients come once more. Cianfrani el at. , ( 2009 ) told that: ââ¬Å" Quality direction could alter some of the direction rules. This can assist exceed degree direction to increase the company ââ¬Ës public presentation every bit good as satisfy the client ââ¬Ës demand â⬠. This issue is really of import for the company which they are strongly focused on client because most of the Hard Rock Cafe ââ¬Ë clients are tourers while a minority is a local occupant ( Heizer el at. , 2011 ) . When the company changes their services/products, they besides need to believe of their existing supply concatenation direction. Mentzer et al. , ( 2001 ) stated that: ââ¬Å" Supply concatenation direction is seen as a mechanism to keep competition in domestic markets, in visible radiation of increasing planetary competition â⬠. The company chooses to upgrade their bill of fare that would reconstitute their supply concatenation direction because they will necessitate new providers every bit good as possibly extinguish some old providers. Hard Rock Cafe does non desire excessively much on beefs and beefburgers ; they want to add more expensive material such as fishes and lobsters which would pull a wider scope of clients every bit good as lift the degree of Hard Rock Cafe one measure higher. Top degree directions besides need to see on the distribution web of new providers. Where are their warehouses, distribution centres, figure of networking, who are their clients? What are payment footings? Can they present goods so we play subsequently or we need to play upfront before they bringing goods? All those things need to see really careful because it will impact to the cost of the repast subsequently on. If the warehouse of new provider is excessively far, it would make a large job when we run out of nutrient to fix repast for clients. Furthermore, if the company has to do full payment before they deliver goods, it would be an issue to direction degree to see because if we can pay them subsequently in a certain twenty-four hours after we receive goods, that is so much better, we can utilize that money to make something else to do more money and pay the provider subsequently. You read "Critical Evaluation Of The Operations Management Commerce Essay" in category "Essay exampl es" Location for Hard Rock Cafe would a large issue to see when choose the location. A batch of things would impact such as political hazard, currency hazard, societal norms, trade name tantrum, and concern patterns ( Heizer el at. , 2011 ) . Political hazard is defined as ââ¬Å" Probability of loss due to political instability in the purchaser ââ¬Ës state that may ensue in cancellation of a licence or otherwise impact the purchaser ââ¬Ës ability to do payments. Political hazards are insurable hazards, and overlap with the political constituent of force majeure hazards â⬠( hypertext transfer protocol: //www.businessdictionary.com ) . It is the chief concern when taking location. Thailand will be a good illustration. Recently, Thailand has a batch of work stoppages which would do investors worry. It will besides impact tourer industry due to a batch of cancellation circuit to Thailand during work stoppage ( hypertext transfer protocol: //www.thaipro.com ) . While concern patt ern is another issue Hard Rock Cafe demand to concern. ââ¬Å" The regulative model in Thailand is rather good but whether it is put into pattern is a different issue â⬠( hypertext transfer protocol: //www.reuters.com ) . The concern environment in Thailand late is traveling down. Corruptness is increasing severely. If company wants to spread out concern in Thailand, this issue would be sing carefully while most of the concerns try to avoid bribing, they want to make clean concern particularly some companies come from developed states such as United State, Australia. Maintenance would acquire affect as the scheme of Hard Rock Cafe has changed to franchise with opened eating house or cafe . This mean they need to redesign the current cafe/restaurant so that will suit local cultural but it will non lose the Hard Rock ââ¬Ës ocular visual aspect. Securency Company is an illustration for corrupting. Securency is a joint company between Reserve Bank Australia and British company call Innovia Films. ââ¬Å" Several former and functioning Securency executives engaged in graft to win trades in Vietnam, Nigeria, Malaysia and Indonesia. â⬠Securency Company has been investigated and graft for some middle-men in order to win the trades oversea has been probed. If Hard Rock Cafe gets involve in this sort of graft, this will destruct all the repute that Hard Rock Cafe has tried to construct up decennaries ago every bit good as it will take to shuting down a batch of concern if the graft is proved. Human resource direction is besides an of import affair for company. Armstrong ( 2006 ) stated that: ââ¬Å" Human resource direction is the strategic and consistent attack to the direction of an organisation ââ¬Ës most valued assets: the people working there who separately and jointly lend to the accomplishment of the aims â⬠. Nowadays, most of the company is truly pay attending about human resource. It can assist the company win over their rivals. For eating house industry, merchandises are of import but services could be an excess point to pull client come back. How Difficult Rock could make it? The company needs to supply the ââ¬Å" better services, cheaper monetary value and faster response â⬠to vie with their rivals ( Blackwell et al. , 2001 ) . Staff turnover is another issue particularly in eating house industry due to really high turnover of employees, around 80 % to 100 % per twelvemonth ( Heizer el at. , 2011 ) . Hard Rock Cafe is successfully in keep really low per centum of staff turnover by Lashkar-e-Taiba employees make full in each twenty-four hours schedule what day/shift they would wish to work base on their degree and how of import they are at each displacement. The intent is to equilibrate work and normal life of staff every bit good as will non allow over-employee between two displacements. This method works really good as Hard Rock staffs love that method and it helps to cut down the staff turnover which is per centum of staff turnover in eating house industry is really high. Although staffs at Hard Rock Cafe are music lover, happy with the working environment but for normal living life, they can non populate without money. So company should hold sensible salary system in order to assist their staffs afford to normal life cost. There is an accusing of an anon. server staff in of the Hard Rock Cafe in United Kingdom that he/she was acquiring paid under the national lower limit rewards which is 2.06 lb per hr while national minimal rewards is around 5.73 lb per hr ( hypertext transfer protocol: //news.bbc.co.uk ) . Employees in Hard Rock Cafe in London are trusting on tips of client to force their rewards to national minimal rewards. These tips could come from hard currency, recognition card tips but we do non cognize all those tip will be distributed reasonably to staffs or the company will maintain them and give portion of it staffs merely. This affair is really of import. Salary would a tool to stimulus the public presentation of employees which could do them work harder, dynamic and enthusiasm. If this affair is proven, the company will be fined and leads to rivals get derive more market portion which is belong to company. In order to spread out concern in Ha Noi, Vietnam, Hard Rock needs to look at challenges and chances before make concluding determination. These challenges and chances are mention below: Based on General Statistics Office of Vietnam, Ha noi is about 3345 km2 with more than 6.5 1000000s of people which is around 1935 person/km2 ( hypertext transfer protocol: //www.gso.gov.vn ) . We can see in here, will little country with a batch of people live in, so it is really difficult to happen location to open a new concern in here. Location is a chief concern of company which is easy to entree ; locate around Central Business District where a batch of traveller and people can see their logo. Furthermore, existent estate monetary value in Ha Noi is really high comparison to other metropoliss so that company would necessitate to see rental or purchase it out ( hypertext transfer protocol: //vietbao.vn ) . That would be added to the cost of repast which would be an issue in competitory with other rivals. Another challenge is cultural differences. Cultural differences could do a batch of job which Hard Rock needs to happen out when be aftering to make concern in Vietnam. Eye contact is an of import to state whether we respect opposite individual or non. For Western cultural, when people are speaking, it is impolite if we do non look at each other ââ¬Ës eyes. But in many Asiatic states such as Japan and Vietnam, they can non look at their higher-up ââ¬Ës eyes otherwise it means you have no regard for them. If you do that so, that mean you show your regard to them ( Moran el at. , 2007 ) . Posture/Gesture can do misinterpretation every bit good if two concern work forces from difference states with difference cultural. In Vietnam, it would be friendly if two people stand near, remain small spread between two people but in western manner, it should be a spread ( at least one metre ) when they are speaking to each other, it is consider polite. On the other manus, handshaking would differences between Asiatic cultural and Western cultural. Western people prefer steadfast handshaking, that show their regard to concern spouse every bit good as trustworthy while in Asia, particularly in Vietnam, house handshaking should be avoided while people think it is ill-mannered, un-educated, non being friendly to think. Those things are really of import because if they do non understand Vietnamese cultural, it might make jobs between flat direction of Hard Rock towards their employees. This is non good for concern as it will make the spread between degree direction and employees, hapl ess public presentations, people might desire to discontinue due to defeated, do non like working environment. Currency hazard is another hazard factor. At the minute, the exchange rate between US dollar and Vietnamese dong is really high which is 1 US dollar can alter to 19500 VND ( www.eximbank.com ) . If Difficult Rock would wish to convey their goods over from US to maintain original gustatory sensation, it would do the monetary value of each repast addition due to value of VND is decrease plus no transportation cost from US to Hanoi if they buy those merchandises in Vietnam. The rise and autumn of exchange rate could do company hold more competitory advantage to rival but it would be a catastrophe subsequently on so that advantage would turn to disfavor every bit Hard Rock Cafe scheme wants local occupants get affect along with tourers. In Vietnam legal model is rather good but it is non applied. Intellectual belongings right is an illustration. It is non protected even Vietnam has signed a batch understanding which promised to protect the right of first publication but it does non set it in pattern ( hypertext transfer protocol: //www.vietnam-ustrade.org ) . The per centum of right of first publication violation is still high at 85 % , same at twelvemonth 2007, 2008 ( hypertext transfer protocol: //phapluattp.vn ) . Hard Rock Cafe can be set up today but following few hebdomads, another Cafe might be unfastened and all the repasts, layout, manners, music would be similar or somewhat differences. It will impact the trade name name of Hard Rock if clients come in, still though that is Difficult Rock Cafe and they have bad serves or nutrient toxic condition. Disregard those challenges above, Ha Noi is still a possible topographic point for investor to see when unfastened concern in here. First, Hanoi is capital of Vietnam with labour force 1.6 million of people while 43 % of them are under age of 35 ; it means 400.000 people enter the market every twenty-four hours ( hypertext transfer protocol: //industrialzone.vn ) . Furthermore, GDP per capital of Vietnam is about $ 1156 USD/year which is really low comparisons to US. It means, company has more option in choosing staffs but pay less money than in US market ( hypertext transfer protocol: //www.dfat.gov.au ) . That would salvage a batch money for company while in US immense money has been paid off for HR and vocalists. This is an advantage when unfastened concern in Hanoi. Second, supply concatenation direction would non be a job because people can come to Hanoi by three chief ways: railroad, roadway and air passage. Hanoi is besides a get downing point of a batch national main road such as Number 1A national main road, Number 3, 5 national route and NoiBai airdrome is about 40km off merely every bit good as near to 5 large industry zones which they can provide most of the demands for Hard Rock ( hypertext transfer protocol: //industrialzone.vn ) . It is easy to present goods for company on a regular basis and on clip so company will non be run out of stock even in peak period. Third, since 1990, economic sciences of Vietnam is turning really fast. GDP of Vietnam is about 7 % turning continuously while GDP per capital is at $ 725 USD in 2006 goes up to $ 1156 USD in 2010 which is about double in 4 old ages clip. We can see bright economic system, turning really fast which is a possible market with around 90 1000000s of people ( hypertext transfer protocol: //www.dfat.gov.au ) . That could open for Hard Rock a batch of opportunities while invest in Vietnam as a batch of US companies did it long clip ago such as IBM, Intel and many more US companies. Intel is good illustration in investing. They merely announced to make up oneââ¬â¢s mind to do the $ 1 billion investing in a comparative fledgling to the hi-tech game ââ¬â Vietnam ( hypertext transfer protocol: //www.usatoday.com ) . This determination is good intelligence for Vietnam which could make a hundred 1000 occupations in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City every bit good as could convey back immense net incomes for Intel in the hereafter as labour cost in Vietnam is rather inexpensive but extremely educated. In decision, ten operation direction determinations play an of import function in making concern of company. Those determinations mentioned supra are non all of 10 determinations but it would demo out how of import 10 operation direction determinations in pull offing quality, better public presentation of employees, create new goods/services in order to accommodate to the fast changing of planetary economic. If Hard Rock Cafe can go on to execute as they are making right now, it would be the strength and a competitory border toward their rivals. Design and Simulation of Wireless Sensor Network
Question: Discuss about the Essay for Design and Simulation of Wireless Sensor Network? Answer: Network Design (NA) Proposed network infrastructure Sun Net organization want to implement a new network infrastructure for their company. Sun net organization have four different working unit which needs to connect to a single network. The four unit which are needs to be attached to this proposed system is main office, media center, design center, manufacturing center. As per Sun net directors requirement, there are some specific tuning needed for better scalability of the network. Figure 1: Sun net network infrastructure (Source: created by author) Above displayed network infrastructure diagram represent the overall functionality of the proposed system. This proposed network has four different segments for its four different working unit. The main office is linked up with a high-value multi-layer switch to provide a high-bandwidth video link in-between main office and media center. This multi-layered switch is capable of managing two different links concurrently. Where one is utilized for the high-bandwidth video link and another one is for providing a slow speed file transfer link. Apart from this particular connection, the other units are also connected to the central office network. The other network segments are design and manufacturing unit which are implemented a switch for providing a valid link to the entire network. The main office is network is concurrently processed by another three network, so main office network segments need to be more accurate and robust. For providing better solution a buffered server is implemented on the main office network. When the main office network is congested by network traffic overheating then, this buffered server cached some data packet to maintain the network stability. Cost estimation According to this network infrastructure the proposed network cost is divided into two category where one for the network components costing and another one for end devices. Components Price Router $10000 Servers $150000 Utilities (cable, end devices) $200000 Simulation of sun Net network (Only test report Applicable as per bookings) Overall sun net network connection in ns2 Figure 2: Sun net network infrastructure overall network design (Source: created by author) This above described represent the overall Sun net network working functionality. Where 0-3 represents four network segments and 5, 6 represents connection entities. For connecting four network segments there, only one network entities will be sufficient, but sun net implements a buffered server for its high-speed cache functionality. So another node (node 4) will cache oversized traffic and stable the network capability. Figure 3: Sun net network infrastructure overall network design (contd...) (Source: created by author) In this above picture displayed how the overweight traffic is cached and managed by the server (node 4) for creating a valid network connection between node 5 and other (node 0, node 1, node 2, node 3). Fast and slow speed network connection The picture which is demonstrated below is to visualize the slow speed and high network connection utilization procedure. Where a specialized network infrastructure is set-upped. Node 0 represent the main office; node 1 represents media center, node 2 represents design center, and node 3 represents manufacturing center. According to Sun net director notes, a high-speed link is created among main office and media center for providing a high quality video link. A low quality link is established between the main office and design center for providing a low quality link. A high-speed link between the main office and media center. And a high sped connection among manufacturing and design section. Figure 4: Sun net network TCP speed separation (Source: created by author) Network congestion- Proposed Sun net network infrastructure needed to be well equipped to protect networks data transaction and data integrity. So for the data packet, validation and error checking sun net implemented a congestion network tracker which can simulate the network function ability toward error checking and error detection. The displayed picture which is attached bellow represents the network's packet loss due to dense network traffic. One of the problems right now is that the industry is going into a direction that it has never been before. Massive acquisitions and mergers are causing a slight problem right now in this industry. One example of this is when three years ago the Cleveland-based Premier Industrial Corp was bought out by Farnell electronics plc of Britain. This company saw itself struggle with many problems spawned by falling share prices, a major CEO's departure, and declining sales. Many of these problems had to do with the logistics of major corporations merging (Srikonda, 1999). Another problem is that there was a sales slump in the industrial electronics industry in the third quarter of 1998. Sales during this quarter rose seven percent, but manufacturers ordered less than the previous year. According to the Electronic Industries Alliance, sales began to slow during the spring and the trade group expected industrial sales to be flat for the year (Brack, 1999). The fourth quarter seems to be questionable depending on what companies you are looking at. Avnet, Inc. announced disappointing performance for their forth quarter and Arrow Electronics announced that fourth quarter earnings will be below analysts expectations. Kent Electronics and VEBA Electronics Inc. both had increased sales for the forth quarter (Walter, 1999). Warren Electric seems to have jumped into the acquisition game with full force. Warren Electric's latest acquisition was in 1997 when Warren purchased Watson Electric Company. Watson Electric joins Warren Electric Group's existing Warren Electric Company, Warren Electric Telecommunications-Utility Company, Warren Electric of Louisiana, Warren Electric of Texas, Warren del Caribe and Thompson Real Estate (warrenelectric.com). There are many suggestions that could be given to Warren Electric. One suggestion is that they need to be careful of the huge logistics problem that exists when acquisitions occur. Sales areas and integrated supply procedures could very well contradict each other in this ever-changing environment. Warren Electric needs to focus on their core competencies and increase value-added services to their customers if they expect to remain competitive in the electronic distribution field.

Free Essays on Y2K
Today, well into the third second year of the 21st century, many businesses and governments are breathing a sigh of relief that the millennium has passed without any of the predicted 'Y2K' disasters - planes falling out of the sky, ice boxes and other household gismos going wild , the whole economy coming to a screeching halt, etc. The businesses and governments worldwide had spent billions of dollars and tens of thousands of man-hours trying to ensure 'Y2K' compliance. The press and "experts" of academia took their age-old COBOL bashing to a new height and intensity and created the 'Y2K crisis'. COBOL was made out to be the mother of all evils in the computer world. Rear Admiral Grace Hopper, the first female admiral of the US Navy, was the mother of COBOL (Common Business Oriented Language). COBOL was 'invented' out of her Flow-Matic program, which was developed by her to teach computers plain English commands. The Conference on Data Systems Languages (CODASYL) was set up under the DOD sponsorship. On May 28, 1959, the University of Pennsylvania. The first meeting was convened by Admiral Hooper representing the Department of Defense (DOD). CODASYL was made of independent language experts and information technology technicians from commercial-industry, finance, manufacturing, retail, computer software vendors, government, and academia. Its main mission was to correct a deficiency of computer language standards in the field and to formulate a common business programming language. The initial specifications for COBOL were presented by CODASYL in April of 1960. It was designed to be a business language that was problem oriented and machine independent. Free Essays on Y2K CHAPTER 1 Introduction The year 2000 computer issue is defined by Zetlin (1998) as ââ¬Å"the result of a universal programming standard that records dates as six digits rather than eight, using only two digits for the year. Software that uses two-digit year fields (that is, almost all of it) will understand the year 2000 as ââ¬Å"00â⬠if the problem is not corrected in timeâ⬠(pg. 1). The medical industry as a whole will approach year 2000 with months of new system implementations and developing contingency plans to deal with problems associated with Y2K. Medical manufacturers must pay close attention to the way medical facilities plan for Y2K. The variances in facilities ordering patterns due to Y2K could affect the medical manufacturers forecasts and inventory levels leading to a shortage of supplies. Also computer system compliance issues could result in loss of medical records or critical medical equipment failure. Manufacturers typically use historical usage to forecast for the coming year. However, with potential changes in ordering patterns, some adjustments may be necessary to meet customersââ¬â¢ needs. In addition, computer systems must be Y2K compliant to ensure Electronic Data Interface (EDI) which is used to exchanges computer data will function properly and patients health will not be at risk. For the purpose of this study, I have created a ficticious medical supply manufacturer, Equiptek Industries, which will be located in the eastern part of the United States. Background Medical facilities across the United States are concerned with critical date sensitive medical devices and products availability as January 1, 2000 approaches. Hospital concerns include issues such as the scheduling of elective procedures and supply issues with manufactures. Elective procedures are medical procedures that are non-emergency and can, if necessary, be postponed. Laura Bruce (1999) states ââ¬Å"Have extra staff on hand and don...

There is also a detailed set of guidelines, CSAZ8000, published specifically in the context of renovation of health care facilities, for essential electrical systems, heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, handling of waste materials, infection control, plumbing installations, and medical gas-pipeline systems. A renovator can follow these standards to ensure quality and safety. They help the renovator to know ââ¬Å"if the technical functions associated with their major systems were safe and fully operational,â⬠as suggested in the CSA website, CSA.CA.com. Ethical, legal and professional considerations Coursework
Ethical, legal and professional considerations - Coursework Example software development is a set incremental and iterative method which is focused on the value of customers and interactions that turn it to a business reality following a particular plan. For a project which is meant to investigate methods of agile development, effects of using agile to improve IT and valuation of agile methods, there are a number of crucial considerations that can be focused on. They include legal considerations, professional considerations and ethical considerations. A systematic approach for dealing with any moral dimensions of any practice or activity is professionalizing. Software development is considered an emerging profession in engineering whereby a professional is expected to rely on common sense alongside time-honored experience other than relying application of scientific knowledge and principles and lack the essentials elements of a real professionalism. Any profession has a basic requirement for training and learning, a particular code of conduct that impose high standards, an effective disciplinary system meant for those people who breach the code, a basic emphasis on the social responsibility of a professional and finally licensing. Therefore, when a code of conduct is enforced in a profession or rather for given professionals, it has a significance impact on the professionals. To start with, it enables a professional to protect and serve the public by developing user friendly and less harmful software. Secondly, it enables a professional to inspire and provide guidance to other aspiring or junior professionals in the field. Moreover, enforcement of code of conduct enables professionals to arrive at or rather meet the set standards for a given profession; for this case Agile Software Development. Fourthly, it assists in giving moral support that is essential for validation of courageous decisions in line of duty. Finally, enforcing code of conduct in Agile Development educates and engenders mutual understanding among professionals

The Services Offered By Barclays Internet Banking Information Technology Essay
The Services Offered By Barclays Internet Banking Information Technology Essay In this report I seek to look at one of the big worldwide financial provider called Barclays and concentrate very much on its internet banking. Barclays has got 300 years of experience in banking (baclays.com 2010). Barclays bank offers internet banking and serves a large number of customers in the world. The report will also give an outline of the services offered by Barclays internet banking and a deep explanation will be given on how this internet banking is beneficial to the society. There are several services offered by Barclays internet banking. The internet banking services offered by Barclays are not different from the services offered by other banks which are involved in internet banking. Some of the transactions which can be done through internet banking are as follows (lawyerment.com); Furthermore, Barclays online banking allows the user to open his bank account, do savings and investments, pay loans and mortgages, pay insurance as well as to contact international banking. Barclays internet banking also allows students to have their students account, approve their loans, share trading and many more services. Extend to which internet banking is beneficial to society In order to give a judgment on the extent to which internet banking is beneficial to society, two things are to be considered. These are advantages and disadvantages of internet banking to society. The services offered by Barclay internet banking are advantageous to society and detrimental in another way. So in order for me to give a judgment on the extent to which this internet banking is beneficial to society , I will also use the advantages of internet banking as given at (Barclays.co.uk) as well as the general advantages and disadvantages of internet banking. ADVANTAGES OF INTERNET BANKING Convenient and easy Barclays bank provides free online banking and the services are given any time needed. With internet banking, the users can pay their bills, transfer their money, and check their balances while they are home. Whenever something urgent arises for example in paying the bills, users will not need to go to the bank but they can do their transactions right from their homes whenever they have access to internet. For some other people who go to work away from their bank branches, it becomes easy for them to access their accounts everywhere they are. It is also possible to use your mobile phone to access your bank information. Time efficient When opening an account, a lot of time is taken in doing the paper work. But using internet banking, the necessary procedures are clearly provided for users. In the case of Barclays, the necessary information for users is provided on the necessary websites. This makes it easy for business people because they dont waste most of their time standing on queue or finding where the bank is. Barclays provide information on how to get an online account. Safety Barclays provides safety for users of its internet banking services though many ways. These include making their regular checkup of their systems to make sure there are no problems, provision of security measures like automatic logoff, systems which can sense and protect the account from attack by internet hackers. The bank maximizes its risk management to make sure that every protective measure is done to ensure safety of the accounts. Furthermore enough information is given to people regarding how they should keep their login information- for example they should not send their login information to some people via some unnecessary and unprotected mails. Barclays takes its full responsibility in protecting the privacy of the users information. These include some warnings if the user does use the service unnecessarily. International banking With the globalization that is taking place in a fast growing world like this, people need everything to be fast. People now are contacting their business beyond their borders without any limitation. Internet banking allows users to access their banks accounts and do whatever transactions they want even though they are outside the country where their banks are. It is now easy to contact business from outside your country. In general, not all business has their braches all over the world but with internet banking it becomes possible to do everything from wherever you are. Accessibility With the fast growing world and technology, internet has become accessible to large parts of the world. Internet services are offered 24 hours every day in many parts of the world. Provided the availability of internet access, all users can log into their respective accounts. Value Internet banking is beneficial to people in the sense that the running costs are less. When using other banking ways, will need to pay a certain amount of money to go to a bank to transfer money, or to go where there is an Automated Machine to make a transfer. But using online banking all these can be performed while lying on your bed. DISADVANTAGES OF INTERNET BANKING Forgery Many cases are reported about the forgery that takes place in online banking. With the advancing technology many people have devised some websites they can use to access other peoples user names and passwords. As a result if the banks do not have strong safety measures against this many people would lose their money as a result of hackers. However as I said reputable banks like Barclays have also devised safety measures against hackers. These include automatic log off, sites which detect hackers, protection of users privacy, teaching users how to protect their computers from hackers and so on. Less trust People in general do not put much trust in machine than they put on people. So the reason why there are only few people doing online banking, its because less trust is given to the way these machines operate. So many people will not want to take risks by doing online banking. CONCLUSION I have used Barclay bank as one of the major financial provider using internet banking. With the information that I obtained from the Barclays websites as well as other reputable websites in an effort to find out to what extend internet banking is beneficial to society. I have included several services offered by internet banking which included paying of bills, making of transfers and so on. Then in answering to what extend online banking is beneficial, I searched the advantages and disadvantages as shown above, some advantages included how easy it is to do all your transactions anytime , anywhere as covered in convenience . For disadvantages I also included the risk of forgery that can be done by other people to obtain other peoples login details and use them to steal their money. However after weighing the advantages and disadvantages I discovered that there are more benefits than disadvantages of internet banking to society. In conclusion, internet banking is beneficial to the society to a greater extend.

Reggae got Blues :: essays papers
Reggae got Blues Introduction No food on my table, no shoes to go on my feet No food on my table and no shoes to go on my feet, My children cry for mercy, Lord they ain't got no place to call their own. The blues arose as both a social protest and a means for expression by the Afro-American slave. The institution of slavery had existed before the trans-Atlantic slave trade, but never before had a race suffered such discrimination; oppression and poverty as the West Africans have endured for the last four hundred years. " The Africanââ¬â¢s sole purpose in America was, for the most part, to provide the cheapest agricultural labor possible to procure"(Baraka, 3). Previous forms of slavery (Roman and Greek) utilized the intellectual capability of slaves, where as the institution of slavery in the Americas treated slaves like that of property, a master would relate to his slave as, ". if you twist the knob on your radio you expect it to play"(Baraka, 3). This, the non-human view of slaves that existed, viewed Africans as heathens and thought them to be primitive and inferior to the Euro-American. These so-called nonliterate peoples whose traditional histories were passed down generati on to generation through oral tradition, were seen as primitive to the highly industrialized Euro-Americans. The profound beliefs and concepts of one culture (African) become absurd and intangible for a complete opposite culture (Euro-American)(Baraka, 7). Not only were the West Africans aliens to the their physical surroundings but aliens to a new "philosophical system"(Baraka, 7). With this in mind the West Africans who survived the western passage across the Atlantic to the Mississippi Delta had found a similar Jamaican Babylon and, " Lord they ainââ¬â¢t got no place to call there own". The blues are an extension of the West African oral tradition through spirituals, worksongs, seculars, and field hollers. From the late eighteen hundreds to the mid twentieth century afro- Americanââ¬â¢s have been slaves to King Cotton in the form of bound slavery, tenant farming and sharecropping. The endless cycle of debt, has Blues music centered on movement from oppression, and poverty w hile the protest may not always take serious form. I will examine the music of the Delta blues looking for connections to the mento/early reggae era in religious, social and lastly lyrical context. RELIGION African religions usually have a tight fit with a particular culture, language and belief system.

Factors of courage Essay
In this essay I will consider the social, economic and political factors of courage. Many an afternoon has been enjoyed by a family, bonding over the discussion of courage. While much has been written on its influence on contemporary living, it is important to remember that ââ¬Ëwhat goes up must come down.ââ¬â¢ Often it is seen as both a help and a hinderence to those politicaly minded individuals living in the past, many of whom fail to comprehend the full scope of courage. At the heart of the subject are a number of key factors. I plan to examine each of these factors in detail and and asses their importance. Social Factors Society begins and ends with courage. The immortal and indispensable phrase ââ¬Ëhonesty is the best policyââ¬â¢ [1] shead new light on courage, allowing man to take it by the hand and understand its momentum. Much has been said about the influence of the media on courage. Observers claim it is crunchy on the outside but soft in the middle. Nothing represents every day life better than courage, and I mean nothing. Just as a dog will return to its own sick, society will return to courage, again and again. Economic Factors Economics has been defined as ââ¬ËIââ¬â¢ll scratch your back if you scratch mine.ââ¬â¢ To my learned ear that sounds like two people with itchy backs. Of course, courage fits perfectly into the Inter-Spam model of economics. The statistics make it clear that courage is a major market factor. In spite of the best efforts of The World Bank the cost of living world wide are driven entirely by courage. The financial press seems unable to make up its mind on these issues which unsettles investors. Political Factors No man is an island, but what of politics? Comparing the ideals of the young with the reality felt by their elders is like contrasting playing with a puppy and singing with a blackbird. In the words of one of the great political analysts Odysseus T. Time ââ¬ËPolitical idealists must ideally deal, for I daily list my ideals politically.ââ¬â¢ [2] This clearly illustrates the primary concern of those involved with courage. It would be wise to approach the subject with the thought that ââ¬Ëif you donââ¬â¢t have anything nice to say, donââ¬â¢t say anything at allââ¬â¢. However this can lead to missing out important facts. I wait anxiously. What will the next few years bring for courage? Conclusion What can we conclude? Well, courage is, to use the language of the streets ââ¬ËSuper Cool.ââ¬â¢ It inspires, brings glamour to an unglamorous time and is a joy to behold. Iââ¬â¢ll leave you with this quote from Leonardo Beckham: ââ¬ËItââ¬â¢s been nice educating you.ââ¬â¢ [3] [1] Traditional ââ¬â possibly first said by King Arthorâ⬠¦ but probably not. Do you belive that Opedius is essays
Do you belive that Opedius is essays Pier Paolo Pasolini created a film based on the play Oedipus Rex by Sophocles. This film is considered one of the finest renderings of a classical Greek subject that the cinema has ever produced. Pasolini has in this film rearranged the flow of events, so that they follow the chronological order. The story starts with the shepherd carrying a child to the desert, while in the original myth from Sophocles the point of departure is different; the messenger come to ask Oedipus for help in saving the dying city. Furthermore Pasolini adds a modern prologue and epilogue, which are brilliantly lyrical and charged with great intensity of personal feeling. Pasolinis Oedipus Rex may be taken to be as much about Pasolini himself as about Sophocles hero. According to Pasolini this film is the most autobiographical of all his creation. One of Pasolinis claims about his film was that the little boy of the prologue is himself, the boys father is his father, and the mother is his own mother. Oedipus is born into circumstances of Pasolinis childhood, with his parents clothes in the film inspired by photographs of Pasolinis parents. Pasolini tried to create his own form of Oedipus; he wanted to avoid any connections that the audience could make with the original story. For this reason the location where the story was filmed was moved from Greece to Morocco. In portraying Oedipus, Pasolini had made some insertions into the story. Somewhere at the beginning of the story line he presents Oedipus at the age of 20 throwing discus at the competition and what was significant about this event was the cheating of Oedipus. This fact might suggest to us that Pasolini didnt think that Oedipus is a completely innocent, but.... Oedipus is allowed to kill in the film by Pasolini, in order to defend his pride, but is the killing the act of the innocent person or does Pasolini ...

America And Romes Struggles essays
America And Rome's Struggles essays Compare the early Roman struggle for independence to that of colonial Americas. What similarities do you see in the Roman and colonist outlook on their future government? There are many similarities between America and Romes attempts at independence. First, a higher party oppressed both. For the Romans, it was the Etruscans, while it was the British for the colonists. Both also shape how Romans and Americans lived their lives. In the sixth century B.C., the Etruscans moved south across the Tiber River and conquered Rome. They set up a monarchy that lasted for more than a hundred years. The Etruscans had an enormous political, cultural, and social effect on early Roman culture. The Etruscans adopted many of their ideas from the Greeks, including the Phoenician alphabet, and incorporated many of the Olympian Gods into their religion. The Etruscans also taught the Romans how to the arch in the building and also how to set up forums. In 509 B.C., the Romans overthrew the Etruscan monarchy and developed a republic. In a republic, the citizens elected the representatives to run the government. The American Revolution (1775-1783) was the conflict between the 13 American Colonies and Great Britain. The first war between the two, the Revolutionary War, resulted in America gaining independence from its mother country, Britain. Then in 1787, the Constitution was laid out by the American government. This led to the formation of the representative democracy that is still used by our government today. The similarities between the two are fairly clear. Both Rome and the Colonies felt that they were being held down for too long under a monarchy and that they did not receive enough rights. They eventually gained enough support to lead a revolution against its oppressor. Once the English and Etruscans were defeated, the people set up governments that gave the average citizen a say in politic ...

Itââ¬â¢s important that the there should not be any misleading through the concealment of accrued expenses or through overstated income by false profits. Contingencies and commitments should be disclosed in the form of note, if any. The current ratio, the liquid or acid test ratio and the stock turnover basically considered as the short term liquidity ratios as they are used to calculate the ability of a company to meet its current liabilities with its current assets. Enough cash must be available to payoff the short term liability like trade creditors usually within 12 months including those who required immediate payments like of 2to 3 months. A ratio of between 1.5:2 and 2:1 are considered reasonable (Randall).while a current ratio in excess of 2:1, shows that the resources are not efficiently used and the investment is tied up in huge stocks , debtors or unnecessary accumulation of cash in banks. As evident from the figures, the current ratio incase of poodle ltd of 1.5:1 is acceptable while incase of Collie limited it should be decreased by 0.5, i.e. it has to be around 2:1, so as to be acceptable. Liquid ratios are generally calculated to check the ability of the company to meet its current debt through the current assets other than stock. The purpose is to assess that whether is an unnecessary accumulation of stock or not. It may be either of raw material or WIP or even of finished goods. A liquid ratio of 1:1 is usually considered satisfactory but it can decrease till 0.9:1 (Randall), provided that there the provision for doubtful debts is not very high, i.e. the prompt payment from the customers is expected. Control Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words
Control - Essay Example In addition, the system indicates if teaching is meeting the needs of the students. Lavigne (96) argued that implementing diagnostic control system is through giving out anonymous online evaluations and surveys so the professor will be able to understand which area he or she can improve on. I support the diagnostic control system since it is confidential and free from external influence. The system gives the best judgment and evaluation of the professor by the students. It is, however, prone to studentsââ¬â¢ personal prejudice and attitude towards the professor. Many students tend to rate highly those professors whose courses perform well (Lavigne 100). The diagnostic control system, as a result, favors exam based learning where students mainly learn how to pass exams. However, I argue that a good professor should not only teach but also be instrumental in his or her studentsââ¬â¢ excellent performance in class. It is only through the excellence in class and a mastery of the course by the students that the same students can measure a professorââ¬â¢s

International Business Environment in terms of Globalisation Essay
International Business Environment in terms of Globalisation - Essay Example Globalisation also made labour globally mobile, because the new environment greatly assisted nations to do business jointly with overseas countries and hire skilled foreign workers (Jaumotte & Tytell, n.d.). It is obvious that cultural aspects and consumer behaviour vary from country to country and hence organisations face numerous cultural barriers while operating in a foreign country. Studies show that cultural aspects can have a great influence on an individualââ¬â¢s physical and psychological levels of personality, which plays a notable role in developing an organisationââ¬â¢s worksite culture. As Siadat et al (2012) argue, cultural integrity is necessary for an organisation to improve its productivity because a culturally diverse worksite would not promote worksite coordination. In addition, the issue of general acceptability of other cultures may come into play in a culturally diverse worksite. Under such circumstances, there will be conflict among workers and it will adv ersely affect the efficiency of the worksite environment as a whole. Under a culturally diverse worksite, employees may react differently to different events and therefore it would be difficult for the management to frame a common operational policy for such a workplace. Likewise, consumer behaviour is greatly related to culture; therefore, an international company cannot effectively influence consumer behaviour if it practices same marketing and business strategies in all countries (Univrsity of Minho 2004). In other words, an organisation would not succeed in a foreign country unless the organisation accurately understands the countryââ¬â¢s cultural and social norms. In short, cultural multiplicity is turning out to be a growth impediment to multinational organisations as they are forced to spend more on cultural diversity management. Each organisation has a unique culture and this element is of considerable importance in determining the organisationââ¬â¢s market position. L owe (2012) points out that the concept of organisational culture is of a great value as it directly impacts an organisationââ¬â¢s unity, loyalty, competition, direction, and identity. While evaluating the impact of culture on western countries and china, it seems that both these regions have totally different views on culture. In case of western countries, they have a more socially developed or liberalised culture whereas China still follows traditional cultural views and norms in terms of business structure and operations. Therefore, impact of culture is more evident in China as compared to western countries. To illustrate, the Chinese culture has notable impact on product design, supply chain activities, and marketing campaigns. This paper will discuss various cultural difficulties likely to be encountered when a multinational company from a western economy contemplates a joint venture with a foreign partner in China. Importance of national cultures The Western society, especia lly Europe and the US, is an agglomeration of different cultures mainly because these countries constitute the ultimate destination for job migrants. Hence, a unique culture is not visible in the Western world. Cultures of the majority of the Western counties have been

Europeans coming to America DBQ Essay Example for Free
Europeans coming to America DBQ Essay In the 14th century the Europeans set out to find an all water route to Asia to trade and get spices, silks, gold, porcelain, and other riches. Little did they no they ended up being the first Europeans to explore the New World. Once the New World was discovered, more and more explorers continued to venture out to this New World. The European explorers kept on coming back to the New World for wealth, an increased amount of power in Europe, to spread the Christian religion, and many more. The arrival of the Europeans impacted the lives of Native Americans in negative ways, the natives died from disease the Europeans brought, were turned into slaves, and had to assimilate to new land. Although there were many negative effects of their arrival there were positive impacts as well such as the exchange of resources. The Europeans changed the Native American ways of life forever. One of the reasons the Europeans came to the new World was to acquire gold. Nicolas Le Challeux who sailed from France in 1565 stated this country was rich in gold (Document 2). Due to the fact that gold was the primary goal to conquistadors, Pizarro and Cortes came to the New World in order to conquer gold filled land. Pizarro and Cortes specifically went to the Aztec and Inca empires because the temples were made of gold. According to the graph entitled, Exports of Gold and Silver from the New World to Spain, it was very clear that within these years, 1576- 1580, much gold was exported from the New World to Spain (Document 3). This is because Pizarro and Cortes conquered the Aztec and Inca empires and took gold. Gold was a big reason for the European Explores to come to the New World.

What Is Meant By Language Varieties?
What Is Meant By Language Varieties? Language is defined as a systematic use of sounds, gestures or symbols for communication. It has a complex system where the rules are not clearly stated and is productive as an infinite number of sentences can be produced once the rules are learned. Varieties of Language The expressions and uses of a language varies in many ways. The diagram below illustrates these language varieties : Language Varieties Participants Geographical Registers Social Historical Medium Topics Setting 1. Historical i) Old English it was descended from the languages spoken by the Germanic tribes when they invaded England around 500 AD. The various dialects spoken by these invaders formed the early English language. ii) Middle English was the result of the French influence of the Normans and lasted from 1100-1500 AD iii) Modern English is broken into early Modern English and late Modern English. The former began around the time of playwright, William Shakespeare. Late Modern English occurred around 1800 during British conquest and colonisation of other parts of the world. 2. Geographical English may be the native language of England but due to various reasons such as: colonisation, migration, globalisation, cultural, economic, etc, it had spread to other countries around the world. However, the language used in these different countries developed independently from the original language due to influences by local languages. These influences cause, among other things, the differences in the pronunciation, thus producing their distinctive accent. Some forms of these are: American English Australian English Indian English In certain regions, there are different versions of the same language called dialects. These dialects have different grammar, vocabulary and accent. Eg : Cantonese ( dialect of Mandarin); Aboriginal English (Australia). 3. Social It refers to the use of the language in terms of the social class or identity. Eg: The upper class society in Britain tend to use Received Pronunciation (RP) also known as Queens English or BBC English while others tend to use Cockney English. 4. Registers These are variations caused by : i) Setting It has a large influence in the application of English for Specific Purposes (ESP). Different industries such as Legal, IT, Food Beverage, Technical or Hotel Service has their own grammar or technical jargon. Eg : Lawyers would use formal or legal terms in the execution of their papers or court hearings whereas an electrician needs to understand technical terms to issue instructions or to describe repairs. ii) Participants The age, sex, group identity and roles will influence the language used. Age A different variety of language is used when talking to children, eg. Peekaboo than when talking to a peer. Sex Females tend to be more hyperbolic or expressive in their speech while males speech is more subdued. Roles The role we play in our day-to-day contact with others affect the way we speak. Eg ; as a spouse, colleague, parent, teacher, etc. iii) Topic Different subjects have its own specialized set of vocabulary and grammar usage. Eg : A disc jockey and a priest would use different sets of the same language to convey their messages. iv) Medium It can be visual or auditory. Visual (reading and writing) In reading, there are different degrees of formality and also more vocabulary than in listening. In writing, grammatical rules need to be applied and time is needed to interpret the written word Auditory (speaking and listening) Having good listening skills certainly helps one to pick up and improve on speaking skills, esp. in intonations, grammar or vocabulary. In speech, words are usually accompanied by body gestures to convey the message. Words spoken rarely needs to be interpreted, unlike written words. Conclusion As the usage of English language expands across the globe, influences from local cultures, language or from new discoveries in Science and Technology will evolve the language, making it more varied than ever. What is Communicative Competency? Communicative competence refers to a language users grammatical knowledge of syntax, morphology, phonology, etc as well as social knowledge about how and when to use utterances appropriately.(Dell Hymes,1966) The desired outcome is the ability to use the language correctly and appropriately to accomplish communication goals, not the ability to use the language exactly as a native speaker does. This outcome depends on : 1) Appropriateness in Speech Other than having knowledge of the words and rules of the language (linguistics), one must also learn not just to say what one means but to use the right words to suit the situation. The words used in to communicate with a friend may deem to be inappropriate when speaking to your headmaster. Eg : Hi! Buddy, have a jolly good day. Good Morning, Mr. Brown Speech can be classified into : Casual/Intimate Speech It is easy going and natural, mainly occurring between family, friends or people whom you are comfortable with. It may contain many omitted forms of grammar and missing words . Eg : Want tea? I go home now. You coming ?. ii) Formal Speech It is more careful but also natural. Proper word sentences and grammar rules are observed and may be used in office or court settings between employer-employee, lawyer-client, etc. iii) Ceremonial Speech It tends to be more unnatural where the rhythm and intonation are quite different from normal speech. 2) Appropriateness in Writing Competency in writing, such as knowledge of grammatical rules, spelling, etc cannot be overlooked. However, different situations dictate different styles of writing. i) Telegrams Where the main message or the gist of it has to be communicated in the shortest time, correct grammar form used may be inappropriate. ii) Essays It is formal writing where grammatical rules, semantics, spelling, etc has to be observed. iii) Poetry The poetic style of writing may not follow the grammatical rules of the language. iv) Legal Document The terms and language used have to be very formal and expressively written. 3) Appropriateness in Setting Being competent in using the language appropriately in a social setting will enable you to be understood and accepted. The setting is influenced by: i) Participant The social status, sex and age will affect the style of speech . Eg: speech use to communicate with a child is different from communicating with an adult. ii) Topic Speech used depend on the subject. Eg; words used for a recipe discussion will include ingredients, method, measures while IT skills will include computer, download, printer. In conclusion, where English is taught as a foreign or second language, it has become widely accepted that communicative competence should be the goal of language acquisition. This is unlike previous views in which linguistics competence was commonly given top priority. References: En.wikipedia.org/wiki/communicative competence www.teachingenglish.org.uk/think/knowledge-wiki/communicative competence www.nclrc.org/essentials/goalsmethods/goal.htm Section B Q1 What are the various stages of L1 acquisition? How does this knowledge help us in L2 teaching? Language is commonly defined as any means of conveying or communicating ideas and language acquisition is learning how to communicate these ideas. It is the process by which people acquire the ability to perceive, produce and apply the words to communicate. First language(L1), which is also known as native language or mother tongue is acquired naturally due to ones needs to communicate in order to fulfil his wants. Acquisition Of First Language It occurs in stages from birth. Stage 1 : Pre Speech Babies respond to speech around them more keenly than to other sounds and from birth, will learn to pay attention and distinguish the following in their environment before they speak : i) speech phonemes of the language, eg the speech sound of t and d in bat and bad; ii) intonation the rising and falling intonations iii) rhythm of speech phonological or system of speech patterns in the language used. Stage 2 : Babbling Babies begin to babble from around 3 to 4 months old. It is basically speech sounds with rising and falling intonations. These indiscriminate utterances (eg dadadaà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã ¦ or nananaà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã ¦..) do not make sense to the listener but the baby appears to understand the meaning of it. Stage 3 : One word (Holophrastic) stage At about ten months, infants start to utter their first recognizable words although: i) pronunciations may be inaccurate eg : eep for sleep ii) vocalized words may not correlate with words in the language eg meh for cat or ta for duck iii) certain words may be distorted eg goggy for doggie iv) reduplication of words eg da-da,na-na Stage 4 : Two word stage Babies are able to say mini sentences with simple semantic links from 18 months onwards. Eg : cat no (there is no cat ) At this stage, their ability to express is not as advanced as an adult. The semantic use of words are either too broad or too narrow. He may call any round item : ball or only himself and no one else boy However, these underextensions and overextensions develop and change over time. Stage 5 Multi word Stage (Telegraphic Stage): By two years, most children are able to speak in sentences of several words. These telegraphic sentence structures are made up of lexical morphemes which are grammatically incomplete. Eg No eat instead of I wont eat. Stage 6 Normal speech: By about 3 years of age, they would have acquired grammatical and functional structures of words to be able to conduct normal speech. Second language (L2) is any language learned after the first language. Unlike L1, it is normally acquired in order to integrate with the environment.and is achieved through active learning and motivation. As L2 learners follows the same stages of acquisition as L1 learners, it is beneficial if we understand and apply these stages because it will help us to educate L2 learners more effectively. Acquisition of Second Language The stages that L2 learners go through are: Stage 1 : Silent Stage In an environment which is similar to the Pre-Speech Stage of L1, they hear and learn to recognize the distinctive sounds of words and pronunciations. During this silent stage, they may not speak but can respond various ways such as pointing to an object, person or gesturing with a yes and no response. Stage 2 : Early Speech During this stage, utterances of first words (holophrastic) gradually make way to speaking a few simple words and then, simple phrases of the language. Mispronunciations are common during this stage and sentences are telegraphic in nature. Stage 3 : Speech Emergence Learners try to form sentences and will make mistakes in the grammatical structuring of the sentences. By making use of the Mean Length of Utterance (MLU), the development of the learner can be assessed by measuring the morphemes uttered. Eg Early In Between Later You eat? You eating? Are you eating? From the early stage of 2 morphemes, it develops to 3 and then finally 4 morphemes where the grammar and syntax are in order. Stage 4 Language Proficiency Learners are capable of using complex sentences and apply the acquired language to a greater extent. They can opine, discuss and most importantly, begin to think in the second language. Teachers Role In all the above stages, the teacher takes the important role of the mother where she encourages, repeats and reinforces the language. By motivating and making the learners feel secure in a conducive environment, learners will be more willing and confident to acquire a second language.

The Influence of Lucians True Story on Jonathan Swifts Gullivers Travels :: Gullivers Travels Essays
The Influence of Lucian's True Story on Jonathan Swift's Gulliver's Travels Lucian's fictional and satiric travel dialogue, True Story, is a form that has been often copied over the centuries.Ã Elements of his story, such as travel to the moon, inspired later science fiction.Ã His presence in another world allowed Lucian and his imitators to poke fun at or question the things of this world, whether it be national heroes and philosophers, misplaced patriotism or the more subtle lies of contemporary writers.Ã Beyond symbolism, social commentary and parody , however, Lucian's True Story allows the reader a humorous but interesting flight of fancy to undiscovered worlds. Ã Ã Ã Ã Ã Ã Ã Ã Jonathan Swift's Gulliver's Travels is one of the best known stories of European literature.Ã Although the book is most often read as a children's fairy tale, the story is intended as satire.Ã In fact, Swift wrote to his friend, Alexander Pope, that the book was intended to "vex the world, not to divert it."Ã Swift comments on the wars of religion, and a myriad of problems with England, its leadership and its people.Ã Many allusions can be caught by the careful reader, but many more through the passage of time and Swift's fabulous and incredible descriptions are lost to all but the most perceptive.Ã However, Lucian's influence on Gulliver's Travels can't be missed.Ã The authors attack many of the same institutions and use similar devices to satirize their world. Ã Ã Ã Ã Ã Ã Ã Ã Lucian's diatribe against irresponsible and dishonest writers, is mirrored in Gulliver's Travels.Ã Lucian describes how "lots of other writers have shown a preference for the same technique: under the guise of reporting their travels abroad they spin yarns of huge monsters, savage tribes, and strange ways of life."Ã Gulliver excuses himself from writing down his adventures amidst the giants of Brobdingnag, by saying: Ã "Ã Ã ...That nothing could now pass which was not extraordinary; wherein I doubted, some Authors less consulted Truth than their own Vanity or Interest, or the Diversion of ignorant Readers.Ã That my own Story could contain little besides common Events, without those ornamental Descriptions of strange Plants, Trees, Birds, and other Animals; or the barbarous Customs and Idolatry of savage People, with which most Writers abound." Ã Ã Ã Ã Ã Ã Ã Ã Swift also borrows Lucian's emphasis on human anatomy and sex.Ã Lucian describes sex with trees, men being hung by their penises, and other men using their member as a post on which to fix a sail.

The Magna Carta and the Constitution
The Magna Carta and the U. S. Constitution are closely related since the former is a cornerstone for the latter. Magna Carta The rule of law is enshrined in Magna Carta which was issued in 1215 by King John of England to appease land barons. The rule of law asserts that all persons must comply with laws of the nation irrespective of king or any other privileged person. Although Magna Carta is silent about kingââ¬â¢s immunity, the document does impose limit on kingââ¬â¢s power. The barons has the authority to invoke the provisions of Chapter 61 of the Magna Cartaââ¬â¢s original version which states that the king should not ignore or violate the traditions, customs or laws and could not take any arbitrary actions against his subjects. 1 Magna Carta provides for rule of law, ensures fairness of laws, contains commitment to due process of law and gives respect for economic rights. While these rights were the privileges given to barons in England by way of declarations in Magna Ca rta, the founders of the U.à S. drew inspiration from Magna Carta and made these rights applicable to all the citizens of America and became part of the Bill of Rights. Magna Carta is therefore a source for the U. S. Constitution. The Bill of Rights 1791; which representing 10 amendments as part of the 1st amendment to the U. S. Constitutions. Clause 39 of Magna Carta provides that no freeman shall be punished except by lawful judgment by his peers or by the laws of the land. This was to prevent the King to deliver sentences without the authority of law.The U. S. Constitution provides for rule of law by which no person is above the law. In this context both, Magna Carta and the U. S. Constitution are similar. Whereas the Magna Carta was issued by the Monarch, the U. S. Constitution was given by Americans unto themselves. The 14th Amendment to the U. S. Constitution includes the stipulation of due process, this provides for fair trial before depriving any person of his life, liberty or property. The trial is what is meant by due process.Again it must be a fair trial as part of the due process. In The Magna Carta, the due process of law is known by law of the land and legal judgment of peers. In order to constitute due process, there should be a right to fair and public trial, right to be present at the trial, presence of an impartial jury, right to be heard as part of oneââ¬â¢s own defense. Besides, the laws must be in written form, taxes must be for only public purpose, and property can be taken only for public purpose with due compensation. In this way The Magna Carta pales in comparison due to not being as descriptive as the U. S. Constitution for the meaning of due process. Both Magna Carta and the U. S. Constitution require that laws shall be fair and discriminatory. Thus, Magna Carta and the U. S. Constitution share many things in common. Magna Carta of 1215 was a bold initiative of the then King, without which the U. S. Constitution would have taken s till longer time to be what it is today.

Free Essays on The Effect Of Womenin The Workplace During WWII
Women? In the workplace? WHAT ââ¬Å"World War II changed the face and the soul of the world forever. The boundaries of countries, the shapes of cities, and the minds and views of people were permanently alteredâ⬠(Wise, 5). Peopleââ¬â¢s outlooks would never be the same.
